Techemer TITN Water-Lubricated Bearing Material

Techemer TITN Water-Lubricated Marine Bearings
Techemer TITN is a wear-resistant elastomer alloy developed for water-lubricated bearing applications. Combining low-friction sliding performance with material resilience, TITN is suitable for selected marine shaft bearings, stern tube bearings, rudder bushings, and water pump bearings. It is also a potential alternative to Thordon XL, subject to application requirements.
Techemer TITN Elastomer Alloy
TITN is an engineered polymer bearing material developed to balance wear resistance, low friction, and flexibility.

Unlike rigid bearing materials, its elastomer-alloy structure provides a degree of compliance, making it worth considering for bearing systems exposed to vibration, shaft movement, or minor alignment variations.

TITN is particularly relevant to water-lubricated shaft systems where wear resistance and reliable sliding performance are important.

Material selection should consider bearing pressure, shaft speed, water quality, operating temperature, and the shaft sleeve material.

Key Advantages of TITN

TITN Material Properties

The following information summarizes the currently available material data.

TITN Wear Resistance

Wear resistance is an important factor when selecting polymer bearing materials for water-lubricated applications.

In the available abrasion comparison, TITN showed a wear volume close to that of Thordon XL under the represented test conditions.

This result suggests that TITN is worth evaluating as an alternative bearing material for certain applications.

However, abrasion test results should not be used alone to predict bearing service life. Operating loads, shaft speed, water contamination, alignment, shaft finish, and lubrication conditions can significantly influence actual wear.

TITN Bearing Applications

Marine Propeller Shaft Bearings

TITN can be considered for water-lubricated propeller shaft bearings where low friction, wear resistance, and material resilience are required.

Stern Tube Bearings

TITN is a potential material choice for selected stern tube bearing designs, including replacement projects where compatibility with the existing shaft and bearing housing can be verified.

Marine Rudder Bearings

The material can be evaluated for rudder bearing and bushing applications involving low-speed or oscillating movement.

Water Pump Bearings

TITN may be considered for suitable pump guide bearings and bushings operating with water lubrication.

The final material choice depends on the pump configuration, operating conditions, and bearing design.
